With the Avengers: Endgame press tour well and truly in action, things suddenly got real when the cast left empty chairs for the ‘fallen’ heroes.
This is just too cruel.
After Jon Favreau, who plays Happy in the MCU, introduced the cast, onlookers were greeted with an incredibly sparse offering, with empty chairs filling up the stage, representing the characters we lost at the end of Infinity War.
‘Clearly things look a little different in a post-Infinity War Marvel Cinematic Universe,’ the actor and producer joked. ‘Post snap, there’s a few empty seats.’
Jon went on to introduce the few survivors, Danai Gurira (Okoye), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Don Cheadle (James Rhodes), and Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner), before the rest of the stars, including Brie Larson, Paul Rudd and Chris Evans, came onstage.
He also welcomed Marvel President Kevin Feige and directors Anthony and Joe Russo.
With a couple of the actors nearly spoiling the movie (Chris Evans and Karen Gillan, we’re looking at you), things ended up getting emotional as they looked back on their time in the MCU.
‘The friendships and connections we’ve made over these 10 years now, it truly has become a family,’ the Captain America star reflected, before devolving into an argument with Robert over Paul Rudd’s birthday party.
What are friends for, right?
While Joe Russo described the film as ‘powerful’ at the conference, in the latest featurette, the Iron Man star described it as the Avengers’ ‘finest hour’.
‘Thanos wiped out 50 per cent of all living creatures,’ Scarlett added. ‘These are the highest stakes that the Avengers have ever faced.’
You’re telling us, guys.
Meanwhile, with the fandom absolutely freaking out about the upcoming flick, the cast seem comparatively chill, with some of them even taking the time to form a Beatles tribute band over the past few days.
We always knew the MCU was missing something.
Chris squared, Robert and Mark joined forces for a rendition of Hey Jude, and it’s everything we’ve ever needed.
While Evans went for a casual hand in the pocket approach, Mark came through with the intensity.
Robert, meanwhile, appeared to be having an out of body experience. As for Hemsworth? Not a clue what was going on.
We feel you, Chris. We feel you.
